BEAUTIFUL YOU LYRICS

BLACK DIRT TRACK

Dirt black track
Feet brown bare
Late summer heat
Child stands there

Black track dirt
Bare feet brown
Wonderland
Far from town

Under a sky of peppermint trees
All to the roar of waves on the beach
Hours to be lost in a world of pretend

Diving deep down holding it in
Salt on her lips scales on her skin
Finding the courage to walk to the end

Black dirt track
Bare brown feet
Childs a girl
With secrets to keep

Black track dirt
Feet bare brown
Call her name
She don’t turn around

Whoever know whoever knew
That dirt black track
Would lead me to you
When i was a girl
It was my yellow brick road

Who could’ve known
Who could’ve known
I’d be walking it now
With a child of my own
Feeling all the magic that it holds

Breathing it out
Breathing it in
Cold crystal blue
Dreaming a dream
Dreaming a dream

Whoever knew
Whoever knew
That dirt black track would lead me to you

When i was a girl
It was my yellow brick road
Who could’ve known
Who could’ve known
I’d be walking it now with a child of my own
Feeling all the magic that it holds

Feeling all the magic
(Black dirt track)
Feeling all the magic
(Black dirt track)
Black dirt track
Black dirt track

BEAUTIFUL YOU

You're walking around in a haze
After gambling with your life for hours
Just like you did yesterday
And the years before when we tried to put your chains on

Beautiful You,
You got caught up in a web of trying
Something fun and new
That no longer keeps you high and flying
You gotta change
Change the road you have been taking
Take a look at your face
Your life is broke and your hands are shaking
Beautiful you changed so long ago now we don’t know ya
And you know its true
I’ll keep open the doors that you slam behind ya
If looks could kill
You woulda killed me a thousand times over
But your deadly aim
Was to turn away and not look over your shoulder

You gotta change
Change the road you have been taking
Take a look at your face
Your life is broke and your hands are shaking

Beautiful you
You’re the only one left in the trenches
Beautiful you
lay down your weapons and surrender

Cos you’ve gotta change
Change the road you have been taking
Take a look at your face
Your life is broke and your hands are shaking

In basement rooms where the
Coffee’s bad there mingles a people
who talk about it too
All having shared in the common peril

Beautiful you
Lay down your weapons and surrender
Beautiful you
Lay down your weapons and surrender

DARK HIGHWAY

I might as well be sitting in the middle of nowhere
The cars on the highway won’t look my way
They fly by - paralysed am I in the headlight glare
Blinding light as the daylight dims
Darkness falling cold and grim
Hazard lights flashing
Waving my thumb in the wind

And I know what they’re saying and thinking - I’ve said and thought it too
It’s just a little different when the person on the side of the road is you
“It could be a trap, a desperate thief, better watch your back
It’s better now if we just drive on past
Don’t get involved don’t take no risk
Let somebody else stop and take care of it"

All night long
I waited for someone
To lend me a hand on the side of this dark highway

Finding yourself in need of help from a stranger’s hand
Makes you realise - opens up your eyes to where you stand
The good in a man is only as good as the bad is bad
Nobody wants to look at me
Everybody’s got somewhere to be
Nothing but an old guitar for company

All night long
I waited for someone
To lend me a hand on the side of this dark highway

So I sat there singing my lonesome tune
The stars shone down, I stared back at the moon
I couldn’t help thinking how everything’s turned out wrong
Everyone afraid of the other guy
Nobody looking you in the eye
Everybody lonesome nobody asking why

All night long
We’re waiting for someone
To lend us a hand on the side of this dark highway
All night long
I waited for someone
To lend me a hand on the side of this dark highway

6000 MILES

6000 miles behind I left you
6000 miles feels so alone
6000 miles I’d have to travel
6000 miles to get back home

I’d have to sail oceans boundless
I’d have to cross endless skies
Some nights I do dream I can grow wings
And I can fly that 6000 miles back home to you

I traded you for some great adventure
Stepped out into a world unknown
To far away lands did I wander
Whose deserts and mountains I now roam
But I just can’t let go of your golden shores
I still crave your salty air
And if I was standing on the edge of heaven tonight
I couldn’t care about anything less than 6000 miles

I’ve never really had much of a way with words
But god knows I love to sing
The feel of this sound coming through me
The feel of the joy inside that it brings
So tonight I’ll be your minstrel
You be my silent beating dream
Whenever that music plays inside us
Not even oceans can keep us apart

SOMEBODY'S GONNA GET HURT

The backyard river's turning red
And birds are falling from the sky
The old dog's, rolled over dead
And I keep wondering why

Somebody somebody's gonna get hurt
Somebody somebody's gonna get hurt

A mother sitting in the street
Blank staring straight ahead
Holding a sign that says
"Please, my children haven't been fed"

Somebody somebody's gonna get hurt
Somebody somebody's gonna get hurt

The farmer out in the field
Harvesting GMO seed
His crop will bring in the cash
It's all gonna end in tears

Somebody somebody's gonna get hurt
Somebody somebody's gonna get hurt

No use keeping up with the Jones
The bank man he won't bend
You're gambling with your front teeth
You know how it ends

COME AWAY

Come away come away with me
It’s been so long since we got along
And I'd be inclined to admit there were times you were wrong

Won’t you come away
Oh there's a bright there's a brighter day
Somewhere ahead where we can learn from our mistakes
And be like old friends again, wouldn't it be great
but this time we’d give not take

I can see the suspicion in your eyes
I bit you once this is true
But there's no need to be twice shy
Cause if you knew like I do then you would know
just how we could
baby we could

Crooked arrows don't fly straight and true
So I straightened out now I'm taking aim
And I'm headed straight to the heart of you

This must be fate that I would see you here today.
After all those nights that I’d dreamed of what I'd say
If by happenstance we would meet again
And what I'd say what I'd say is
Come away come away with me
It's been so long since we got it on
And I'd be inclined to admit most of the time I was wrong

Please come away

WHEN A MAN GETS DOWN

When a man gets down, he goes out on the town
And he wont come home until the whole damned night is over
And when that mans out on the town, he starts looking around
For a pretty face with a sympathetic shoulder,

But he won’t talk to me
He won’t talk to me
He won’t say nothin that might get him in trouble.
He won’t talk to me
He won’t talk to me
He’d rather sink his lips right back into the bottle.

When that man comes home as the sun doth rise,
She cries it out until her tired eyes are swollen
And when that man lay’s down, in the bed she made
He hides his face deep under the covers

But he won’t hold me
It’s not where he wants to be
Yet she says she loves him over and over
He won’t hold me
It’s not where he’s meant to be
He can try but in his heart he knows it over

She sits and cries it out, but she don’t call no one
She don’t want the girls to know all of their business
Cos they fall apart every month or two
Ad its all good until the storm clouds shadow over

I wanna wake him up
I wanna shake him down
Show him we can get to the place back where we started
But he’s gotta talk to me

CRACKS OF DAWN

Colour fading from the morning sky
I’ve lost the inclination to perform
Love didn’t stand a chance, neither did I
So I’m slipping through the cracks of dawn

Maybe I’m self seeking, maybe seeking for myself
But it leaves me crying - weeping and forlorn
Never more to dance with chance or circumstance am I
I’m slipping through the cracks of dawn

There’s no such thing as unexpected turbulence
Everybody is weathering the storm
From this moment on I aint’ gonna ride it out alone on my own
I’m slipping through the cracks of dawn

You promised more than fleeting empty pleasure
I need permanence and peace to keep me warm
The things of this world aint’ the ones to treasure
So I’m slipping through the cracks of dawn

I can’t believe I nearly lost my soul completely
It looked so good but I was just your pawn
You slipped the dagger in and you smiled so sweetly
So I’m slipping through the cracks of dawn

Now the melody of life is there to greet me
There’s a soothing measured rhythm to the song
Every little piece just fits so neatly
Now I’m slipping through the cracks of dawn

BLINDLY BELIEVING

I picked her up in a January storm
She was breathing the coldest air she’d ever known
Carrying the sun on her skin from a home far away
I didn’t know what she was leaving behind

But I could tell on her face she had trouble in mind
The years had been kind but her eyes didn’t shine anymore

Dirty Little Bird with dirty little wings
That flies through the night to other pretty things

I called him today and said I was leaving
Dirty little bird with dirty little claws
That scratch at my heart saying loves forever
More the fool I am for blindly believing
Blindly believing

I took off her coat pulled out a chair
She fixes me with an empty stare
Says … its sure wild out
Something about the tremble in her voice
Toys with a mans easy choices
Tomorrow’s choices make everything all right

In a dream in a web in a breath of poison words
A cold wind howls
Loves a dirty little dirty bird

ROWENA AND WALLACE

He was a skateboard boy from a skateboard town
Wore his hoody up, pants hanging down
Back pocket Lucky Strikes he was 14

She was a good good girl from a good good home
But when she cut at night, she cut all alone’
She dyed her hair black and green

When the good good girl, met the skateboard boy
She was overcome,they went overboard
With homemade tattoos said “we are free”

We are young, We’re gonna run
Like a river needs to flow
Like a tree that needs to grow
We are young, We’re gonna run
Cos no-one loves me like you do
No no one loves me like you do

They skipped out on school
Hid in her Nans backyard
Took her Daddy’s keys
Her mumma’s credit card
And they drove and drove towards the sun
He had it all planned
We’re gonna drive real far
I’ll skate pro and you can learn guitar
This life has not been good to me

My daddy don’t belive
My mumma don’t have dreams
They keep house real neat
And the front lawn green
But I keeo the scerets about you and me babe

We are young, We’re gonna run
Like a river needs to flow
Like a tree that needs to grow
We are young, We’re gonna run
Vos no one loves me like you do,
No no none loves me like you do

The night turned cold, the rain came down
He held tight to the wheel as they spun around
White lights and angels came down to see

The angles came, the angels saw,
The angels made the final call
We will take them two by two and we’ll set them free

Cos they are young
On the run
Like a river needs to flow
Like a tree that needs to grow
They are young
On the run
And no one loves him like she do
No no one loves her like he do

BORN TO LOVE

Forty years ago I came into this world
A helpless hungry child
Forty years of trying, forty years of crying
To understand the reason why
I was beaten, bruised, bloodied and used
In a ditch by the cold roadside
When a stranger came - put love on my pain
And said “go now and do likewise”

I was born to love
I was born to love
Aint’ no doubt got it all figured out
I was born to love

Love is the force that steers the course
Everybody marches in time
You can gain the whole world but if you aint’ got love
Your treasure ain’t worth a dime
Everybody need it, everybody want it
Everybody trying to make it stay
But love’s not something you just hold on to
You were born to give love away

You were born to love
You were born to love
Aint’ no doubt got it all figured out
You were born to love

Love’s not something you just fall into
It’s a choice that you’ve got to make
You can’t legislate it, manipulate it
Only love causes love to wake
To lay down your life for somebody else
Is the greatest love that can ever be shown
At the end of the trail love never fails
Because love never seeks it’s own

You were born to love
I was born to love
Aint’ no doubt got it all figured out
We were born to love

We were born to love
We were born to love
Aint’ no doubt got it all figured out
We were born to love

FEBRUARY

February hitched up her skirt and rolled her stocking down
She let a little sun up high but she keeps her boots on
the cold ground
She slapped another year on me
I got a notion like I need to get out of here
So I'm gone, gone
With this guitar in my hand and my red shoes on

February February what are you gonna do
Your sister down south is warm and better lookin than you
I’ve been standing in your shade for too long
Did you really think that you could keep me here
I’m gone, gone
Back to the salt of the earth that’s where I come from

February girl you better wipe that smile from your face
You can taunt me all you want but I know spring’s around the corner and the world is just a ticket away
I got nothing more to say to you
I'm gone gone
And there ain’t nothing can shake this rock I stand upon
